Boothbay Region Land Trust (BRLT) preserves over 1,700 acres including six islands protecting wildlife habitat, vistas, forests, meadows, wetlands, shorefront, and historical sites. Wherever feasible and ecologically wise, BRLT provides opportunities for public access. BRLT’s 15 preserves provide over 30 miles of hiking trails open year round, free of charge.
Six properties are accessible
by boat.
BRLT properties are open for quiet, low impact activities. When visiting BRLT’s properties, please observe the following rules: |
|
|
- Overnight camping and fires are not allowed.
- Keep dogs under control and carry out all litter. Mutt mitts are available at most kiosks.
(Dogs are allowed on all preserves except Damariscove Island.)
- Parties greater than 10 must obtain permission.
- Commercial use is not permitted.
- Respect commercial working waterfront activities at Roberts Wharf and Damariscove Island.
BRLT protects land through ownership or conservation easements. BRLT partners with land owners through conservation easements which limit future development on privately owned land. As the conservation easement holder, BRLT is responsible for ensuring that the conservation easement is upheld over the years through annual visits. To find out more about way to protect your land, see Conservation Options: A Guide to Maine Landowners. E-mail or call us for more information.
Working Waterfront
One of the criteria BRLT considers when preserving land is shorefront land. If BRLT preserves shorefront land that has been accessed traditionally by fishermen, clammers or wormers, BRLT supports that traditional access. BRLT provides working waterfront facilities for 22 fishing families at Damariscove Island and Roberts Wharf at Porter Preserve.
