Sun. Aug. 3: East Boothbay, Boothbay Boat Builders & Seafood Festival, 10 a.m to 4 p.m.
Tour East Boothbay’s famous shipyards, marina and sail loft.Meet small boat builders with their boats. Board the 125-foot schooner Spirit of Massachusetts, operated by the Ocean Classroom Foundation, Boothbay Harbor. Visit famous working and pleasure vessels. Attend lectures about boats and other nautical topics. Gigantic seafood spread, live music, marine exhibits & demonstrations, popular activities tent for kids, two-day nautical art show and sale, with posters by Earle Barlow.

6th Annual Boat Builders Festival Events
Boat Builders Festival Art Show & Sale
A two-day Art Show & Sale will exhibit the work of a number of regional artists, including Meg Azzoni, John Butke, Marianne Giguere, Roger Milinowski, Paradise Studio, Ronald Parry, Jane Sawyer and James Taliana. The show will be held in the large boat shed at Ocean Point Marina from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sat. Aug. 2, and on festival day, Sunday, Aug. 3. Lobster Bake patrons can visit the show from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 2.
Artist Kim Villard is working with a group of young people in an example of Installation Art – “Billowing Sails” – in the boat shed.

Boat Builders Lobster Bake
Event includes an art show preview, a fabulous silent auction, complimentary cruises on the Damariscotta River, musical entertainment by Michael Johnson and a traditional Maine Lobster Bake. Tickets required.

Boat Bulders Festival Poster by Earle Barlow
Earle Barlow’s original watercolor depicting the East Boothbay waterfront in 1890 is featured on the poster for this year’s Boat Builders festival. Barlow is a longtime resident of East Boothbay, and a well-known artist of maritime subjects. The ship under construction in the painting is the Elvira French, the first of two four-masted schooners to be built in East Boothbay. The 2008 poster sells for $15 unsigned, $20 signed and $30 with a small drawing by the artist. Posters are being sold at Barlow’s Studio of Ships, the BRLT office and through the website. Rupert’s Ramble on the Indian Trail
Enjoy this historic ramble with local hiker, Rupert Neily. Begin at Barrett's Park to walk the trail the boat builders used to get to work in the past. Meet at the Boothbay Region school parking lot at 9:15 AM to be bused to Barrett's Park for the walk which will end up at the Boat Builders Festival in East Boothbay. Take the shuttle bus back to your car after enjoying the festival. |
