Mission
BRLT’s mission is to preserve the special beauty and natural resources of the region while providing appropriate public access and recreational opportunities; and to provide and promote education about wildlife, ecology, conservation and local history.
Conservation
BRLT conserves land through partnerships with local landowners, neighboring land trusts, and towns. BRLT owns much of the land it protects but it also utilizes important conservation tools such as conservation easements to protect land in perpetuity. BRLT also encourages land owners to steward their land wisely.
What will the Boothbay region look like 25, 50 or 100 years hence? BRLT is working hard to ensure the region will still provide wildlife habitat, space for children to play and explore, hiking trails for residents and visitors and access to working waterfront. Future generations deserve the legacy of the natural beauty that makes our peninsula so special. As they say about land: they're not making any more of it. Education
As part of its mission, BRLT provides and promotes education about wildlife, ecology, conservation and local history. BRLT achieves this through offering conservation-themed events and activities on its properties throughout the year including guided hikes, kayak trips, boat trips and more. BRLT also collaborates with the Boothbay Region Elementary School each year to implement a multi-disciplinary conservation themed 5th grade program. After visiting 4 other BRLT Preserves, this 5th grade program culminates in a trip to Damariscove Island. In order to raise the critical funds necessary to carry out the mission, BRLT also hosts several fundraising events throughout the year.
Outreach
BRLT hopes to increase the number of people who support conservation and appreciate the economic, historical, cultural and ecological values of conservation. With over 30 miles of hiking trails and events on BRLT preserves throughout the years, BRLT invites the public to witness the value of conservation.
